Scrapbook/Craft Room Redo

out with the green in with the light blue...I finished painting the trim first. keeping this room light and airy, all of the scrapbook and craft supplys will give it enought color, don't want to over load so keeping it simple, just like an artist with a blank canvas...

painting finished...

hubby changing out switch plates...

my 3 $10 doors that will soon be my desk...what a find...

painting doors the same color as the trim in the room, keep it simple...

first door in...

used L brackets to mount doors to wall, that way I limit how many legs I use, so I will have more space around desk...
2nd door mounted.. will need to touch up paint when finished..

the door wall shelves are up, I used only one door for the shelves, we just cut it down the center...

left all the vintage hardware on doors in keep with the vintage charm...

WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!

ALL FINISHED!!

my message board was an old cardboard picture in wood frame, just added batting on cardboard, then fabric, some ribbon, and ta da a message board.. message board was left over in box lots at an auction, can you say FREE!

I love my Eiffel Tower lamp it was a garage sale find for only $5...

spray painted an old filing cabinet pink...

this is were I now sit to blog and to read all the wonderful blogs I come across...So if you stop in to visit me let me know by a comment and I'll stop over to check out your blog and reply back..

added a glass top...

the hutch that holds all my scrapbook supplies... all my craft supplies are in the closet next to the hutch..
~~
I love my new digs.
Now when the hubby and kids come looking for me this is the first place they come to and, I'm always here. I don't think I'll be getting much done around my house for awhile..

From Wine to Paris

Before: above
After: below
I have been holding on to this wine bottle, just waiting to be inspired to create something on it. I love the Eiffel Tower and all things Paris, it's the whole romance thing about Paris that draws women to it. Oh and I love Mod Podge , my craft room wouldn't be complete with out it.

The Aromas Of Thanksgiving

My home smells like Thanksgiving!
I can't wait!
dry ingredients: flour, oatmeal, oats, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, cloves,
wet ingredients: butter, sugar, applesauce, milk, eggs,
added the walnuts and sugar,

ready to bake at 350 for 65min,
Delicious!!!!!
I got this recipe from my sons math teacher, he was to make the cake to help him with his measuring skills. Needlessly to say, I ended up making the cake, he started out helping but got board when he realized he wasn't going to eat any of it because it had raisins in it.
~
I do recommend using only one cup each of raisins and walnuts, there was so many raisins and nuts in it, that it started to fall apart.
Enjoy!

Oh The Possibilities

A friend and I were off for a day of shopping, when we seen this truck, the color of it had us both wanting some of the old cottage green painted wood that held the back of this truck together. Oh the things we could make with this old painted wood. I would like a desk top shelf to hold all those papers that accumulate around my computer, you know the ones you could throw away but might need, so you keep them just in case.
My friend wanted to make some picture frames for her daughters apartment and some wall shelves.
I just don't think the guy driving this truck would appreciate us waving him over to ask for some of the wood thats holding his truck together, so I guess we'll have to keep looking.
Nothing like the thrill of the hunt.

A Sad Day

Two days ago I received a letter in the mail from my favorite scrapbook store. With excitment I started to open it, I just knew they were going to have another incredible sale, I just couldn't wait to see what they were putting on sale this time. I was hoping it would be QuicKutz or paper, I love craft paper.

I started to read it, at the top of the letter it said... SPECIAL INVITATION.., oh yea this is big. Then the next line said...A HUGH STORE CLOSING SALE,..WHAT! well my heart dropped, this can't happen! Emotions started to work there way up to my eyes, yes I started to tear up. What was I going to do with out, Scrap Mania The Scrpabook Superstore. This puts a big fat monkey wrench in my Christmas list.

Today they will be having their big closing sale. It will be hard for them today to watch their merchandise go out the door at those prices. I know this because I was in there shoes just a few short months ago, when we had to close my beloved Vintage Attic after 7 and a half years in business.

Just last month the two Block Busters in my town closed, along with a country store and towns all around us are losing small business owner. This has to stop we have to join together and support small business. One thing about our great nation is how it started out with small business'es and now they seem to becoming few and far between.

A Fresh Look To An Old Favorite

One of my favorite candle scents is baby powder, from this candle company www.grannyskountrycandles.com . The Company will put your store name and town on one of their labels. My home decor is not country, I really like the candle so I didn't let the label stop me from buying the candle. I just changed the label.
Light blue paper with white and black hand written script paper, vintage sunglass pin tied on with light blue ribbon. this candle I use in my bedroom.

This candle with a torn piece of old vintage book page, a key with cross glued on, a stamp of a bird in nest and all tied together with blue ribbon. this was sold at The Vintage Attic.

last but not least, this primitive candle has fabric wrapped around the jar an old photo held on with rusty wire, a vintage key and twine to tie it all together. This candle also was sold at The Vintage Attic.
~~
I'll be placing another order soon to create my christmas labels.
~~
Don't let a label stop you from buying a candle you love, just change the label.

Before and After

Before

This past Saturday after leaving my sons soccer game, we stopped at a yard sale. I couldn’t resist. The lady that was having the sale said you look so familiar and I was thinking the same thing about her, come to find out she was a former customer of The Vintage Attic.
~~
She was selling this small side board, I over looked the veneer top that was buckling and the failed attempt to paint this piece. I left the yard sale without buying this sideboard, but it didn’t take me long to turn the car aroud go back to pick it up.
~~
Bonnie you will be glad to know this is what it looks like now. Your old sideboard has a new and beautiful life, It is headed to a shop in Luckett VA. there someone will fall in love with it and, ad it to their memories.

My Space

Recently I finished a project that I have been working on at my home.
~
It never fails, every time I get started on a project I think to myself I need to take a before photo. I never do. I always end up getting the photo after I get started, but this will give you an idea of the paint color that was in my bedroom. So 1980s with that dreadful painted wall boarder in pink blue and green.
I just couldn't take it any more, it was time for a change.
My oak furniture that I want to be white, will stay oak. As most of you know when your married there is alot of compromising going on, so the furniture stays oak and the big old ugly chair goes.. Oh yea there was a 5′ by 7′ green rug at the foot of my bed that was taken out and will not return.
we had to take off the door to get a big old ugly chair out of the room, that won’t be returning.
Jim ripped up old pink carpet from my closet, that we never took out. I think in this photo he was putting down the quarter round wood trim.
~~~~~
My New Retreat!
Love my new light, this was once brass and now its beautiful, shabby & white..
Sitting in this chair in the morning or anytime I want to get away and read is so comfortable.
After it was all done when I stood back and looked at it, I like the furniture just the way it is, in it’s natural state of oak. I love the the quite simpleness of the ligth blue color, the name of the color was called quiet moment and now that the room is finished I can see why.
We took a good van load of stuff out of this room that went to auction, and will not return in any form.
I really love the simplicity of this room. It has inspired me to start another room in my house, my spareroom that will be made into my office/scrapbook room. I’ll post that later, I’m in the process of taping it up to get painted.
Stay tuned to see what happens around here next.
God Bless,
Melissa
