Shabby to Chic

Years ago( before we owned The Vintage Attic http://www.thevintageattic.com/) I went into this furniture store (I won’t say which one) wearing the worst set clothing that adorned my wardrobe. I was cleaning and painting that day, when Jim called and said go pick out the bedroom set you want. When my husband tells me to buy something, I do it ASAP before he changes his mind. So I went in the clothing I was wearing. I walk into the furniture store and just froze, it was huge, more than my eyes could take in. The sales clerk walked up to me and looked me up and down before I could even say, I was cleaning and painting, the sales clerk already judged me.. So I ask the sales clerk to point me in the direction of the solid cherry or oak bedroom furniture, the clerk preceded to show me the cheep pressed board bedroom furniture, I said to the clerk, “no I would like the solid cherry or oak” ( I was not sure which of the wood I wanted), the clerk said to me ” this furniture (meaning the pressed board cheep stuff) will be at a price you might be looking for”. I said “have a good day” and walked out. I went to another furniture store that treated me like I looked like a million dollars and spent thousands. I still have that bedroom set to this day. I got the oak.
Every time I think of this, it reminds me of the movie pretty woman, when she walks into a high end clothing store and the sales clerk won’t wait on her. She spent millions at another store. I often wanted to go back to see that sales clerk at that furniture store when I was dressed normal, to let him know where and what I bought at another store, but I never did.
